Counselling

I have had the opportunity to work with Jeff at a professional level and I see him as very motivated and passionate with his practice. He demonstrates insight and compassion founded in his formal training (and) tempered with his personal experience. I hold him in high regard as a colleague.

Dr. Kumar Shivdasani, MD, C.C.F.P.
Member, American Society of Addiction Medicine
(A.S.A.M.)

In my view, Jeff offers a unique contribution to the substance abuse field.

I have had the opportunity to meet with Jeff for individual consultations and to observe his work directly. I have no reservations whatsoever about his professional competence. On the contrary, I find his work to be an outstanding example of how to do counselling with integrity and purpose.

I have always found Jeffrey to be thoughtful, ethically astute, leadership-oriented and professional. He is also thoroughly familiar with adolescent issues, caring and considerate, and is “street-smart” more than anyone else I know.

Dr. Ross Laird, PhD (Creative process)

He is a scrupulous man, and conducts himself ethically. His clients and coworkers have high praise for his sensitivity and attention to detail, and his enthusiasm.

M. Viki Engdahl
Executive Director
The Western Steps to Recovery Society

It is my opinion that Jeffrey would be a fine role model and mentor for youth, that he would strongly empathize with and be able to understand their experience because of both his own professional training and personal experience. As a counsellor, Jeffrey utilizes a flexible, client-centered approach, and balances empathy for and attunement to his clients with an awareness of the importance of clear boundaries. His skills in this respect would be a definite asset in work with youth clients who consistently push at the boundaries and who are in need of an individualized and caring approach.

Michael Wilson, PhD
Executive Director
Phoenix Drug & Alcohol Recovery & Education Society

I have the greatest level of respect for Jeffrey's counselling skills and techniques, and I applaud his academic achievments. He is a rare breed in my experience. He is an authentic individual, who aspires for high moral and ethical standards. I feel that foster children will be fortunate to have him as their advocate.

I have worked with Jeff over the past twelve years as a colleague. Jeff is a gifted group facilitor and a very creative counselor. He brings a fresh and innovative approach to the counseling relationship. Both staff and clients noticed his energy, humor and sensitivity to his work. I would recommend Jeff as a facilitator or consultant in any Social Service setting; he brings wisdom and a broad range of experience to the field.

Keynote Speaking

Mr. Borden spoke today to 140 Provincial Court Judges at a judicial training seminar. He was part of a program that I moderated on Sentencing Addicted Adolescents. These youth probably cause judges the most difficulty when it comes to sentencing. Mr. Borden’s training, enhanced by his personal experience, proved him to be a very important contributor to our program.

...through his appearances in my court ... and in preparation for today’s program, I have come to know Mr. Borden. From my knowledge of him, he is the sort of committed and compassionate individual we should seek to care for the most vulnerable of our youth.

The Honourable Judge, Thomas J. Gove
The Provincial Court of British Columbia

Re: presentation to second year nursing students

Jeff’s presentation concerning addiction, addiction issues, and the management of these issues was fascinating. The students enjoyed the frank and open discussion he facilitated. They had the opportunity to explore the topic of addiction with Jeff in a safe and supportive environment and to expand their understanding of this complex health challenge. I know this will help them provide appropriate care to future clients.

Jeff’s open style was a great fit for our students as he made it easy for them to ask questions. He was flexible in his presentation so that their learning needs were met. He is a wonderful speaker.

…Jeff was a valued guest speaker and…we have added his name to our file of guest speakers.

Re: Drug Abuse Presentation at Burnaby South Secondary School

I was extremely impressed with the quality of Jeff’s presentations. He was articulate in describing his own experiences in regard to drug abuse and recovery. He was effective in communicating his message regarding the dangers of drug use, the difficulties encountered by addicts, and the long ongoing “road to recovery”. The students were very attentive to his message and I feel that the students benefitted from the presentations.

I hope to have Jeff return to speak again at Burnaby South and I recommend him to anyone involved in education, social services, medicine or any field involved with helping others.

Jeff Borden’s address was well researched, thought provoking and inspirational. (He) delivered and presented (his) address with passion and professionalism to my client’s group of approximately 300 attendees with such success that they have requested his services as a regular keynote speaker and educator. Fantastic job!!!
