Jeff Borden is an International Certified Alcohol and Drug counsellor
and has worked in the field of addictions for over 14 years. His
area of interest is in the creative aspects of wellness and self-actualization.
Jeff spent the majority of his teen years and early adulthood performing
as a drummer in the Vancouver music scene. With this lifestyle came
freedom of expression and excess in some healthy and not so healthy
aspects. Jeff is also an accomplished drummer and vocalist. Incidentally,
some of his songs speak to substance use and the negative affects
it had on him in his past and the resolution he has found. He performed
in many bands in the Vancouver underground music scene throughout
the late 70s and 80s. Jeff released a full length CD in 2006 with
guitarist Guenter Schulz (former lead guitarist for super group
KMFDM), and they are in the process of recording a second album
together.
In addition to his private practice, Jeff is also a Keynote
Speaker on addiction issues and various modalities of wellness.
He is a very engaging speaker, and was asked by the Honorable Judge
Thomas Gove to present a piece on youth and addiction issues to
all of the Provincial Judges in British Columbia. Moreover, Jeff
has lectured at many of the High schools and Colleges in the Lower
Mainland on a variety of issues that both youth and adults experience
(see testimonials).
Jeff brings a wealth of experience to his work from both his personal
and professional experience. His professional background includes
working with heroin addicts in the downtown eastside, residential
treatment, detox and managing his private practice (located in Vancouver, BC).
He has worked in several treatment-based facilities and also operated
a four-bed resource for addicted youth.
Jeff is very passionate about his work and has a solid sense of
youth and adult issues. He believes that a client-centered approach
embodies not only respect for the individuals process but
their right to choose their own path of wellness. His colleagues
praise his ability to connect with people in a multitude of different
levels.
Jeff has also received over six years of direct supervision from
one of Vancouvers top therapists and educators, Ross Laird,
PhD (Creative Process). The focus of this supervision has mainly
been in the area of addictions and creative approaches to his clients
(both Youth and Adult). His professional experience includes more
than 14 years as a counselor in various settings, including the
Alcohol and Drug Services system of care (ADS) and the Vancouver
Coastal Health Authority.
To date, Jeff has over 18,000 hours of direct counselling experience.
